Nous utilisons XSM sur nos stations SUN SOLARIS principalement pour trier des fichiers de forte volumétrie et de différents formats.
Grace à ses performances et à sa simplicité de mise en oeuvre, XSM est un outil idéal pour optimiser nos traitements de tri et dédoublonnage.
Dernièrement, nous avons remplacé une commande de tri UNIX classique par hxsm pour trier une colonne d'un fichier (format variable de type CSV) de 150 Mo :
* Tri conventionnel : 1 min 24 sec
* Tri HXSM : 12 sec
Soit 85 % en terme de gain de performance...

Pour un fichier de structure similaire mais cette fois-ci avec une volumétrie plus conséquente de 6,1 Go (11,5 Millons de lignes de 117 champs) :
* Tri conventionnel : 1h 50 min
* Tri HXSM : 10 min 44 sec
Soit plus de 90 % de gain de performance par rapport au tri classique...

We tried XSM, and it worked very well.
I liked the similarity to DFSORT. That is the best part. I would not think about changing XSM.
It is perfect as it is. Its simplicity is what gives it an advantage.

Dear Stephane,

We downloaded and tested the multithreaded version, and I'm happy to report that we achieved a fantastic average performance improvement of about 90% over our installed version hxsm467_64.
We ran numerous tests on both versions using the same 400Mb binary file sorted by 3 keys under the same conditions (very little activity on the machine).
On average, version 4.67 takes about 2 minutes 22 seconds to sort, while the multithreaded version hxsm642_aix5_ppc_64 does it in 1 minute 17 seconds.

XSM works perfectly and we haven't found any bugs yet. We are absolutely satisfied with the performance and functionality of XSM. Since my last benchmark tests comparing Smartsort with XSM, I have no new benchmark results.
